How to convert PDF to Excel

Put the tables and numbers in a PDF into Excel cells, ready to sort, filter and add up.

  1. Choose a PDF

Drop a file or choose one from your device. Use a PDF with selectable text.

  2. Convert to Excel

The tool splits text into columns by position on your device. Each page becomes a worksheet.

  3. Download and check

Download the XLSX, open it in Excel and check the columns before you calculate.

What converts best?

Tables, statements and quotations

Tables with grid lines follow their lines. Tables without lines, such as bank statements, are split by how the text lines up.

Numbers and text

Amounts like 1,234.50 and (500) become numbers you can calculate; brackets mean negative. Dates, account numbers and IDs starting with 0 stay as text so Excel doesn't change them.

Your file never leaves your device

Your files are read and processed by your own browser. They are not uploaded to HKPDF or any server. Processing needs no network; the connection is only used to load the page, the tool and usage analytics.

The site only counts page views and tool use: no cookies, no screen recording, and no file names or contents.

FAQ

Asked often.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the PDF, finds the columns and creates the Excel file locally. File names and contents are never sent to a server.

Can it convert tables without grid lines?

Yes. The tool finds columns from how each line of text lines up, which suits bank statements, bills and quotations. With complex layouts some text may land in a neighbouring column, so check it in Excel.

Can I calculate with the numbers?

Yes. Plain numbers and amounts (such as 1,234.50, -12 or (500)) become Excel numbers. Dates, currency symbols, percentages, account numbers and IDs starting with 0 stay as text so their values aren't changed.

What happens with several pages?

Each page becomes its own worksheet, named Page 1, Page 2 and so on, so it's easy to match against the original.

Can I convert scanned or photographed PDFs?

Not yet. Scans need optical character recognition (OCR). If a PDF includes scanned pages without selectable text, the tool stops with a message instead of producing an incomplete spreadsheet.

What are the file limits?

One PDF at a time, up to 50 MB and 100 pages. For a password-protected PDF, use Unlock PDF with your own password and save a copy first.

Need an editable document instead of a spreadsheet?

Use PDF to Word. It rebuilds paragraphs, tables and images, which suits letters, reports and contracts.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Conversion is free, with no account and no watermark.
