How to unlock a PDF

Two kinds of protection

The file opens, but editing, printing or copying text is blocked. HKPDF removes this directly, no password needed.
Open password
The file won't open without it. You need to enter the correct password; HKPDF doesn't and can't crack passwords.
Use it lawfully
Only unlock documents you own or are allowed to use, such as your own payslips, bank statements, or files you were given the password for.
Your file never leaves your device
Your files are read and processed by your own browser. They are not uploaded to HKPDF or any server. The network is only used to load the page and the tool itself.

Are my file and password uploaded?
No. Unlocking happens in your browser. Neither the file nor the password is sent to a server, and the site doesn't log file names, contents or passwords.
I forgot the password. Can you unlock it?
No. HKPDF doesn't crack passwords; a PDF that needs a password to open needs the correct one.
What changes in the unlocked PDF?
The content is identical. It just no longer needs a password and has no edit, print or copy restrictions. Form fields, links and bookmarks are kept.
Why do bank statements have passwords?
Banks and organisations often password-protect documents they email (for example with part of your ID number). If you open or submit them often, you can save a password-free copy and keep it safe.
